App size: 7.07 Mb
ChemQuantifier provides a safe environment in which to teach or learn how to successfully perform mass-mass, mass-volume and volume-mass calculations under standard or nonstandard conditions. An in-app-specific calculator and periodic table are integrated into the app to streamline the learning process. This app shines for advanced individuals as well as the small-group-ability-paired settings that are so successful in typical chemistry classrooms. Each of the thousands of random problems has a complete solution upon touching the “Give up” button. After completing a problem set, the results can be archived as an email. The app may be used as a paper and pencil test source.
Problems are continuously checked for correctness as the user enters information in the Factor-Label Method format. When the correct quantity, unit and formula are all placed in a label, the label will change color to indicate correctness and providing immediate feedback to users. A glance at a screen will allow a chemistry teacher to determine who needs help. More able students gravitate to the role of teacher in well-paired small groups.
In-app help is available in the form of multiple solved examples. The help examples are specific to the type of problem being attempted: mass-mass, mass-volume or volume-mass.
The in-app periodic table will supply atomic masses to a precision of two places beyond the decimal. Touching an element on the periodic table sends its mass to the in-app calculator screen.
Although the focus is not significant figures, each problem is designed to have an answer expressed using a three-significant-figure quantity, a unit and a formula. A calculator is continuously present and will display any calculations as a chain operation(10.0÷2.02x2÷3x18.02) in the calculator label while pressing “enter” will send the result to the factor-label-method label (59.5). The operation being performed can be passively held in the calculator memory for continued action while a new the factor-label-method label is selected.
